Here’s How To Install Siri (GUI Only) On iPhone 4 And iPod touch Running iOS 5 [VIDEO]

Siri has finally been ported over to older iOS devices and, unlike last time, there is a way you can install it right now. If you’re interested, you can follow the guide after the jump!
iPhone 4 Siri iPod touch 4G
Siri was revealed at Apple’s Let’s Talk iPhone event on October 14th as a voice-based personal assistant which, well, allowed you to use your iPhone’s many “smart” features through voice alone. It was included as one of the three main features of the new iPhone 4S(the other being a best-in-class dual-core chip and advanced optics) and is exclusive to it, meaning folks on older iOS devices were left to set reminders and alarms, call their contacts and send emails through (shudder) touch input.
Well, there is now a way to install Siri, at least its GUI, on older iOS devices such as the iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G.
Yes, if you read the above sentence carefully, you’ll find that this port is GUI only so you will not be able to use voice commands like you would on an iPhone 4S. This is because of the fact that Apple’s servers, which process your Siri voice input data, do not accept data for Siri from an iOS device unless it is from an iPhone 4S.
What’s the point, then? Well, that’s a very good question and our answer may not satisfy you: the fact that the community has got the GUI working has us hoping that they just might find a way to trick Apple’s servers into receiving data from older devices. This guide is strictly just for those of you who want to try the graphical elements of Siri on older iOS devices without actual functionality, or in others words, just for it showing off as it has no other practical use.
How To Install Siri GUI On iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G
DISCLAIMER: We here at Redmond Pie have not tested this method and do not recommend installing Siri on your iPhone 4 or iPod touch 4G. The following instructions are shared for educational purposes only. Proceed at your own risk.
Step 1: Jailbreak your iPhone/iPod touch on iOS 5 using Redsn0w or Sn0wbreeze.
Step 2: Download files required for the Siri port to iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G. You will have to find these files yourself as we wont be able to share these files with you.
Step 3: Using a file explorer for your iOS device, copy over the AssistantServices.frameworkfolder you downloaded in Step 2 to Root > System > Library > PrivateFrameworks after plugging in your device to your computer via USB.
Step 4: Transfer all files from the Springboard folder in Step 2 to Root > System > Library > CoreServices > Springboard.app on your iOS device.
Step 5: Using iFile (you can get it from Cydia), open the .plist file for your iOS device fromSystem > Library > CoreServices > Springboard.app. It will be named N81AP for iPod touch 4G and N9x for iPhone 4 (where x may be 0, 1, 2).
Step 6: Add a new property list named assistant to the .plist file and set its class as Booleanwhile setting its value as YES.
Step 7: Add the following to the .plist file:
assistant
Step 8: Respring your iOS device.
If you followed the steps correctly, Siri’s GUI will be installed on your iOS device. You can hold the Home button to activate it. Once again, we remind you that voice commands don’t work yet since Apple’s servers don’t accept voice command input from iPhone 4 or iPod touch 4G.

How to Perform a Semi Tethered Jailbreak of iOS 5

These are instructions on how to perform a semi tethered jailbreak of your iOS 5 iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

A semi-tethered jailbreak is an interim solution which solves the problem of being unable to reboot with a tethered jailbreak. The semi tethered jailbreak by BigBoss will allow you to reboot on the road, but with limited functionality. It is enough that you are no longer stranded, and you can use your phone, text, and many other features. This is just until you get home and can use redsn0w again to “just boot tethered”. Once you do that, you’re back to fully functional state.

Step One
Jailbreak and boot your device tethered using the instructions below:

● iPhone 4 (Mac,
Windows)

● iPhone 3GS (Mac, Windows)

● iPhone - No Baseband Update (Mac)

● iPod Touch 4G (Mac
, Windows)

● iPod Touch 3G (Mac, Windows)

● iPad 1 (Mac, Windows)

Step Two
Press to launch Cydia from your Springboard.

Step Three
Press to select Manage from the tabs at the bottom of the screen.

Step Four
Press the large Sources button.

Step Five
Press the Edit button at the top right of the screen.

Step Six
Press the Add button at the top left of the screen.

Step Seven
Input http://thebigboss.org/semitether into the text field and press the Add Source button.

Step Eight
Press the large Return to Cydia button.

Step Nine
Select thebigboss.org from the list of Sources

Step Ten
Select SemiTether from the list of Packages

Step Eleven
Press the Install button at the top right of the screen.

Step Twelve
Press the Confirm button to begin installation.

Step Thirteen
Press the large Reboot Device button.

You're device will now reboot without stalling at the Apple logo!

To get full functionality back you will need to boot tethered. Launch RedSn0w as you did in Step One then select Extras then Just boot from the menu.

**A big thanks to BigBoss and all those who made this tutorial possible.

iPhone Dev-Team Updates RedSn0w With Faster Jailbreak Option

The iPhone Dev-Team has released RedSn0w 0.9.9b7 which brings a new faster jailbreak option.

After some feedback on reddit, we've decided to make the initial jailbreak as quick as possible by no longer "stashing" the applications by default during the redsn0w run.  This reduces the time to actually perform the jailbreak from 210 seconds to 80 seconds (60 percent!).  However, you make up for much of that the first time you launch Cydia, which will then want to stash the applications.  You can choose whether you want redsn0w or Cydia to stash in the Preferences pane.

You can download the new RedSn0w updates from here.

How to Jailbreak Your iPhone 3GS Using RedSn0w (Windows) [5.0]

These are instructions on how to jailbreak your iPhone 3GS on the iOS 5.0 firmware using RedSn0w for Windows. The Mac tutorial is here.

This procedure will cause you to upgrade your baseband potentially ruining your chances for an unlock. Please wait until we have posted a tutorial on how to update to iOS 5 using a custom ipsw if you need an unlock. The jailbreak is also tethered for all devices except the old bootrom iPhone 3GS which means you will need to connect your device to the computer each time you reboot. Finally, it may be prudent to save your SHSH Blobs by following this tutorial before continuing.

Step One
Create a folder on your desktop called Pwnage

Download RedSn0w 0.9.9b6 from here and place it in the Pwnage folder. Likewise, download the 5.0 firmware from here and place it in the Pwnage folder. (Note: you do not need to download the 5.0 firmware if you are already on iOS 5.0)

Extract the RedSn0w zip file by double clicking it.

Step Two: (Skip this step if you're on iOS 5 already)
Connect your iPhone to the computer and launch iTunes.

Select your iPhone from the list of devices on the left. Now hold down Shift and click the Restore button. Restore is preferred as it won't create any wasted space on your iPhone.

Navigate to the Pwnage folder on your desktop and select the 5.0 firmware ipsw. Click the Choose button to continue.

iTunes will now update your iPhone to the new firmware.

Step Three
Launch the redsn0w application from the redsn0w folder we extracted earlier.

**Windows 7 users may want to try running the redsn0w executable mode as an administrator in Windows Vista compatibility. You can do this by right clicking the executable and selecting Properties from the contextual menu.

Step Four
Once RedSn0w opens click the Jailbreak button

Step Five
Plug your iPhone into the computer and make sure its OFF then click the Next button

Step Six
RedSn0w will now guide you through the steps to get into DFU mode.

Hold down both the Home button and the Power button for 10 seconds.

Release the Power button and continue holding the Home button until RedSn0w detects the device.

Step Seven
Your iPhone will now reboot

Step Eight
RedSn0w will prepare the jailbreak data.

Step Nine
Select Cydia from the list of options and click Next.

Step Ten
Your iPhone will now be rebooted again and RedSn0w will begin uploading the new RAM Disk and Kernel.

Step Eleven
Once this is complete you will be notified that RedSn0w is done. When your iPhone finishes rebooting (5 minutes or so) it will be jailbroken with Cydia on the SpringBoard.

BOOT TETHERED
Once you have jailbroken you will need to rerun redsn0w to boot tethered.

Step One
From the main RedSn0w menu click the Extras button.

Step Two
Select Just boot from the Extras menu to just boot tethered.

*As usual a big thanks to the iPhone Dev-Team and Geohot for their hard work and contribution to the iPhone community.
